They are distinct from the crane operator and the Appointed Person.
Crane Supervisors typically hold a CPCS or NPORS Crane Supervisor card, relevant health and safety qualifications (SSSTS or SMSTS), and have significant experience supervising crane operations in industrial or construction environments.
A dedicated Crane Supervisor is recommended — and often required by site rules or client requirements — on complex lifting operations, multi-crane lifts, lifts near live services or structures, and on busy construction sites where the Appointed Person cannot directly supervise every lift.
